Chevelle La Gárgola album review

One of Chevelle's BEST Album's to Date

La Gargola is an interesting album title to start with, it's a spanish word that means someone who parties a lot.
The track listing is as follows:

1. ‘Ouija Board’
2. ‘An Island’
3. ‘Take Out the Gunman’
4. ‘Jawbreaker’
5. ‘Hunter Eats Hunter’
6. ‘One Ocean’
7. ‘Choking Game’
8. ‘The Damned’
9. ‘Under the Knife’
10. ‘Twinge’

The album is very solid, it presents some heavy riffs especially for the rock genre. They present a very southern hard rock guitar tone. The singing as always is awesome and even sounds a bit like the Chino from the Deftones from time to time. My favorite tracks are jawbreaker, Hunter Eats Hunter, Under the Knife, and twinge.

Jawbreaker, has great lyrics along with the heavy very "new" riffage in this track. Its' heavy and relaxing at the same-time the screams are straight from the gut, and really brings power to the song. It's almost like he's in pain. The outro is even better, kinda like a dying, off sound or fading away.

Hunter Eats Hunter has amazing vocals by far their best song on the album! The opening riff is astounding very heavy along with the and it's very groofy. The vocals are also very well matched up and has it's own tangy sound to it, sort of like drinking a cup of coffee, at 5AM. I feel like he's long for something throughout this album, something in the past. Along with dealing with past social problems. I also love that They are bringing back the screams, it adds more depth to their tracks. It also gives a TOOL sound in this track! Heavy riffs and long ranged vocals, that precipitate into the abyss.

Under the Knife is also a heavy track! Great guitar tone and vocals. This song really peaks with the chorus. It's aggressive and angry, It seems to be about friends whom turn out to really not friends at all. It's like something is tearing at him that he can't get rid of. It's great if you can relate to the song and I feel like many will.

Twinge is a much more down tempo song. it's very mellow and relaxing. The vocals seem to be longing for something, like he's missing, thus the song title twinge. This is one of my favorites from them along with hunter eats hunter. It's very Nostalgic, just sit back and reminisce on the past.

If your a Chevelle fan of definitely pick up this album! It's great for fans of TOOL, and Deftones, they have similar qualities, in retrospect. I personally think this is Chevelle's best since Joe has left which was back In 05.
If your unsure about the album the whole thing is on youtube ;)
